NJ Stem Fair

Two fifth grade STEM-Tastic students, Avalyn Torres and Kaylie Bartletta and their teacher, presented a video of their journey to the NJ State House STEM Fair to educators and administrators, from across the county at the Hudson County Professional Learning Community. In honor of NJ STEM Month, the girls invented a recycled cardboard robot that they circuited to a computer. They remapped the computer keys to click when you touch a brass fastener on the robot. Once touched, the robot says individualized motivational quotes before STEM class. Therefore, the girls put Social Emotional Learning in STEM by creating the robot, STEMSEL, to foster teamwork, integrity, courage, bravery and leadership; all qualities of an excellent engineer. Principal Dr. Garzon proudly supported the students’ presentation and leadership skills as a student voice advocating STEM education for ALL learners.
